    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Mess Sergeant [then Cook) Leo S. Wasnicewski (ASN: 1039064), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery F, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 15 July 1918, at Greves Farm, east of Chateau-Thierry, France, Sergeant Wasnicewski left his kitchen and volunteered to carry ammunition to another battery that had run out of ammunition. This battery was over half a kilometer away, and to reach it it was necessary to cross an open field, in which many shells were bursting. He made four trips across the field along with four other men, carrying enough ammunition to enable the battery to remain in action.
