By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Sergeant Samuel G. Taylor, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 14 – 15 July 1918, in the vicinity of Courboin and Greves Farm, France, First Sergeant Taylor showed great leadership and coolness in conducting time after time the various columns of ammunition, ration, supplies and replacements along a road heavily shelled, gassed and frequently raked with machine gun fire. His splendid courage and disregard for personal safety during these trips set an excellent example.
