    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Clarence T. Hoverson, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Janvier Farm, France, on the morning of 15 July 1918, Lieutenant Hoverson was with a piece on a road some distance to the flank from the main battery position, where a harassing fire had been fired. The preliminary bombardment by the Germans for their advance had begun as Lieutenant Hoverson’s piece had finished firing. The piece was to be returned at once to the normal battery position. The road over which Lieutenant Hoverson and his men had to haul the piece by hand was swept with shell fire but he went ahead with utter disregard thereof, and, although forced to leave the piece at times on account of the heavy shelling he succeeded in returning the piece to the battery position in time to participate in the S.O.S. barrage.
