By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Wilfred Gilder (ASN: 555067), Private Edward Cors (ASN: 2192737), and Private Walter Harvey (ASN: 555151), United States Army, are cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded them. While serving with Company C, 9th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, these men displayed extraordinary heroism on the Marne in July 1918. After crossing the river they took up forward positions of great importance and were constantly under shell and machine gun fire, remaining faithfully at their positions and doing great damage until they were killed.
