By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Major (Infantry), [then Captain] Curley P. Duson, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 9th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, although gassed 15 July 1918 during the course of the German attack, Captain Duson continued in command of his Company, participated in the Aisne-Marne offensive still suffering severely from the effects of this gas. He was again gassed on the Vesle River and again refused to be evacuated, remaining in command of his company throughout every engagement.
