By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private John Schneidermiller, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 8th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on or about 5 October 1918, Private Schneidermiller was wounded by machine gun fire in the right thigh. The wound was dressed, and Private Schneidermiller then requested to be returned to duty. He remained on duty until 23 October 1918, when he was wounded by shell fire in several places, so severely as to give doubt as to his recover. Through the entire fighting this man’s bravery, fortitude, and devotion to duty was an example and inspiration to his comrades.
