    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Myron O’Neda Manners (ASN: 553806), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company B, 8th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Manners showed the highest qualities of courage and devotion to duty throughout the Battle of the Marine in which his unit took part. On the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, when all men in another squad in his section were casualties, including his section leader, he, with one other man of his squad manned the gun. This gun was slightly damaged by shell fire, and in the face of heavy shelling he left his dugout and repaired the gun.
