Morss, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 8th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Meuse-Argonne Sector, near Bois de Foret, France, Lieutenant Morss’ company repulsed on 13 October 1918, a massed attack of the enemy in greatly superior numbers, and it was the courageous spirit of this officer which inspired his officers and men to defeat the assault. He personally looked to every gun position and directed their work, even firing a gun himself.
