By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private James H. Bronson (ASN: 1346751), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, he and his fellow soldiers of this company entered the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, 6 October 1918, excepting four days in support positions. These same men under constant shell fire and bad weather conditions helped in a very large way to uphold the morale and organization of the platoon which on 19 and 20 October consolidated the position on Hill 281. These men, although weakened by lack of hot food and exposure made change of position from Septsarges to Bois de Foret, carrying heavy Hotchkiss Machine Gun equipment the same night to outpost position on Hill 281.
