By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Stanley Zanowitz, United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Zanowitz displayed conspicuous bravery at Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918. In command of a squad in an exposed outpost, he was surrounded by the enemy. By his skillful maneuvering and great daring they were enabled to cut their way to their own lines where they took up the fight. In this heroic work Corporal Zanowitz was killed.
