By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Andrew J. Wright, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company F, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Wright displayed great heroism at Cunel, France, 9 October 1918. In the face of enemy fire superiority and with a command of only eighteen men he sturdily defended an advance position. On 11 October 1918, while occupying an outpost position with five men he destroyed three enemy positions and completely broke up a strong counterattack.
