By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Regimental Supply Sergeant Clifford H. Boyd (ASN: 544705), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Supply Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Meuse-Argonne offensive in October 1918, Sergeant Boyd remained at Madelaine Farm for several days to issue rations to the Regiment. During this time the Farm was daily the object of German heavy bombardments and many casualties occurred daily in the immediate vicinity. This dump supplied not only the 30th Infantry but practically all units of the 3d Division as well as many units of the 5th Division.
