By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Omer Louis Wash (ASN: 1555540), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company M, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 18 October 1918, at Claire Chenes, France, when an enemy machine gun was causing many casualties in his Company, Private Wash crept up to the Sniper’s Post, under cover of darkness, and at dawn when the sniper came out to begin firing, shot the sniper, drove off the crew and captured the machine gun.
