By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Ingvald O. Pederson` (ASN: 5540099), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Headquarters Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, near Fossoy, France, Private Pederson volunteered to carry a message to the forward Battalion from the Regimental Post of Command over a route receiving the heaviest shell fire, though his task was outside of his duty as a member of the Intelligence Section. He was wounded in the execution of this task, but nevertheless delivered his message, suffering great pain.
