By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Joseph Kalabourka (ASN: 541974), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company C, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 213 July 1918, at la Tieulerie Farm, near le Charmel, France, Corporal Kala when, none of the stretcher bearers were available, he voluntarily crossed an open space of two hundred yards directly in front of his company lines and brought back to his company a comrade whose arm had been blown off and who was calling for help. This was done in the face of heavy machine gun fire.
