By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Homer Herrin (ASN: 555514), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company E, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, when the rations for his company failed to be delivered by the carrying parties and when men were asked for to go back for the food, Corporal Herrin volunteered for the duty and successfully led the carrying parties on their different nights through heavy machine gun and artillery fire for a distance of two kilometers to where the food was.
