No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Harold Soper (ASN: 540979), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company B, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 25 July 1918, Sergeant Soper displayed great bravery and coolness and ability in handling his squad during an attack on the village near Le Charmel, France. He kept his squad together under heavy artillery and machine gun fire, and when separated from the remainder of his company and in great danger of his life, he continued the advance and systematic search of the town, reporting back to his Commander when the occupation was completed.

While serving with Company B, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 26 July 1918, in the attack on the town of Le Charmel, France, during the Aisne Marne Offensive, Sergeant Soper displayed leadership, courage and coolness in the control of his squad when separated from his command and under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. Being detached as a combat liaison patrol with troops on the right he successfully carried out this mission, arriving at the objective with the attacking waves.

While serving with Company B, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive on 14 October 1918, near Cierges, France, after being painfully wounded early in the morning, Sergeant Soper continued with the attacking wave throughout the day and through the fiercest fighting, thus showing entire disregard for danger or personal safety, setting a fine example to the rest of the command.
