By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Fred Faulk (ASN: 2175740), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company A, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 22 October 1918, while in the Argonne Forest, Sergeant Faulk voluntarily left his trench and crawled 150 yards in front of it to where a wounded man lay and returned with the wounded man on his back to a place of safety. This act was performed under exceptionally heavy machine gun and artillery fire. Sergeant Faulk was afterward killed by shell fire.
