By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Barrett F. Brown, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fossoy, France, on 15 July 1918, Lieutenant Brown with his half-company moving to their new position after having been relieved from the front line, was caught in the enemy’s barrage. This officer showed extraordinary coolness in the danger to which he was exposed while personally finding shelter for his men. He made three trips to the nearest dressing station two hundred yards away, each time carrying a wounded man on his back, and returning immediately to his post.
