By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Chester L. Eskey, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Headquarters, 6th Infantry Brigade, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Lieutenant Eskey, Brigade Liaison Officer, showed exceptionally meritorious service during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, 1 to 27 October 1918. Lieutenant Eskey as Liaison Officer between the 5th and 6th Brigades, made numerous trips to the front lines in the face of heavy machine gun and artillery fire. By devotion to duty, without regard to his personal safety, he succeeded in maintaining liaison at all times.
