By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Veterinary Corps) Lloyd J. Brown, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving as Veterinarian with Headquarters, 6th Infantry Brigade, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Lieutenant Brown showed exceptional devotion to duty and extraordinary heroism during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive from 1 to 27 October 1918. Lieutenant Brown, of non-combatant status, remained with the front line troops, administering medical attention to wounded animals, thereby saving numerous animals and facilitating the advance of the brigade.
