By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private David Morgan, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Morgan distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the Hospital Corps, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action on 2 February 1918. In a sector where sniping was brisk and the trenches close together, Private Morgan, finding a soldier so seriously wounded that he could not be evacuated through the bayou, at the risk of his own life jumped upon the parapet and, with the assistance of others inspired by his example, succeeded in carrying his wounded comrade along the top in safety to a first-aid station.
