By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Cook Frank Malott (ASN: 1940185), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Cook Malott distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company M, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Exermont, France, 2 October 1918. When his company was suffering losses from fire by an enemy sniper in an old tank a short distance in front of them, Cook Malott attached himself to a combat patrol and was conspicuous by his fearlessness and in assisting in its assault and capture and in killing the sniper.
