    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Richard A. Woodley (ASN: 2468309), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Woodley distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Nantillois, France, 11 October 1918. Private Woodley voluntarily went alone into the Bois de Ogons, which was at the time being heavily shelled by high explosive and gas shells, and located a number of officers and men belonging to another division.
