By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private William F. Reardon (ASN: 199272), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Reardon distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 101st Field Signal Battalion, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Samogneux, France, 24 October 1918. At a time when the telephone lines were badly needed, Private Reardon with Sergeant Edward E. Nickles, remained without shelter for several hours, testing out the lines, until his comrade was wounded.
