By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant George W. Bryson (ASN: 1322833), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Bryson distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 115th Machine-Gun Battalion, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Vaus-Andigny and Molain, France, 11 October 1918. With absolute disregard for his own personal safety, Sergeant Bryson went about 200 yards across an open area swept by enemy machine gun fire and rescued his company commander, First Lieutenant Sidney J. Stelling, who was wounded, and assisted him to a dressing station. Sergeant Bryson then re-crossed the same area and assumed command of the 1st Platoon.
