By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Joseph Rudsik (ASN: 2411467), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Rudsik distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Cierges, France, 28 September 1918. Private Rudsik went through a heavy machine gun barrage and rescued a wounded machine gunner who was trying to operate his gun. After carrying the wounded gunner to safety, he again went over and brought the gun to a point where it was used very effectively against the enemy.
