By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Charles J. George (ASN: 1806557), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private George distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Machine Gun Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Cunel Heights, France, 11 October 1918. After being wounded and ordered to the rear, Private George took up a rifle and rejoined his command, later carrying messages between the battalion headquarters and his company. He remained with the company until evacuated and carried to the rear.
