War Department, General Orders No. 3 (1922)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Medard S. Gizenski (ASN: 2668881), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Gizenski distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action on 1 November 1918, while serving as a guide sent to meet relieving troops. He courageously and with entire disregard for his personal safety remained at his post under a terrific bombardment of artillery and aeroplane bombs after all except one of the guides sent with him had withdrawn, and succeeded in properly directing incoming troops to the front line.
