By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Lars C. Jeppersen (ASN: 2384106), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Jeppersen distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 60th Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Clery Le Petit, France, 4 November 1918. Sergeant Jeppersen led his platoon in the first wave of the attack across an open field to the canal near Dun-sur-Meuse, through a terrific machine gun and artillery barrage, showing great courage and most excellent qualities as a platoon leader in urging his men across the canal and placing his men in the best possible points of advantage and safety. The utter disregard he displayed for his personal safety proved an inspiration to the men of his platoon at this most critical time.
