By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Dental Corps) Maximillian P. Bergeron, United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Lieutenant Bergeron distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 47th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Cuisy, France, 26 September 1918. He voluntarily drove a wagon containing badly needed medical supplies to the 3d Battalion dressing station over routes exposed to heavy artillery fire and in disregard of warnings from military policemen on the route that the road was impassable on account of concentrated enemy artillery fire. Lieutenant Bergeron successfully accomplished his mission and delivered the medical supplies, and was a great assistance to the surgeons in dressing the wounded.
