By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Ralph Van Brocklin (ASN: 1291189), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Van Brocklin distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 132d Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Hamel Woods, Somme, France, 4 July 1918. In the advance he was severely wounded, but in spite of this he continued with his organization until exhausted.
