The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery), [then Captain] John Harvey Fye (ASN: 0-5733), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Greves Ferme, France, 15 – 16 July 1918, in directing the fire of the 2d Battalion, 10th Field Artillery in the face of heavy enemy artillery fire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Fye, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
