    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Albert Carlson (ASN: 2193178), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Carlson distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 341st Machine-Gun Battalion, 80th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Les Tuileries, France, 2 November 1918. Sergeant Carlson voluntarily carried forward, mounted and opened fire with his machine gun in advance of our Infantry. This gallant act assisted greatly in the advance of the Infantry.
