By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Seward R. Crumb (ASN: 1213530), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Crumb distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Pioneer Infantry, in action near Cuisy, France, 7 October 1918. After having made two trips to the first aid station during enemy bombardment, this enlisted man again exposed himself to enemy fire in order to carry a cigarette to a severely wounded comrade.
