By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Major Thomas Hunt Barber, United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Major Barber distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Pioneer Infantry, in action near Cuisy, France, 7 October 1918. After having assisted in the evacuation of several wounded, this officer, with the assistance of two enlisted men, returned to carry a very severely wounded comrade to the first aid station while exposed to enemy artillery fire.
