The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Michael Castura (ASN: 261828), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 125th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Cierges and Mont St. Martin, northeast of Chateau-Thierry, France, 1 and 3 August 1918. During the attack on Cierges, Sergeant Castura took command of his platoon when the commanding officer had been evacuated and led it successfully through the barrage to its objective.
