The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Burtis A. Endicott (ASN: 2100275), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Marcheville, France, 26 September 1918. While isolated from the rest of his platoon and under violent machine-gun and artillery fire, Private Endicott was wounded in the arm by a machine-gun bullet. After receiving first aid he returned to duty and continued in the fight until again wounded.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Burtis A. Endicott (ASN: 2100275), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Trugny, France, 22 July 1918. After five runners had been shot down trying to get through a heavy artillery barrage with a message to the battalion commander, Private Endicott volunteered to carry the same message over the same route and succeeded.
