The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to General Giichi Tanaka, Imperial Japanese Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, for services rendered during World War I and in his relations with the U.S. Army while serving as Vice Chief of the Japanese General Staff and later as Minister of War of the Empire of Japan.
