The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major of Engineers Georges Riegel, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Representative of the 4th Bureau, French Armies of the North and Northeast, in the Office of Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4, Major Riegel was charged with the supervision of the supply of French units and personnel placed at the disposition of the 1st American Army. By his high professional attainments and interest he assured the closest liaison between the French and American authorities, contributing largely to the success of the Allied cause.
