The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Coussergue, a French Civilian, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As French Regulating doctor at St. Dizier, France, Dr. Coussergue rendered the American Expeditionary Forces valuable service in making possible the evacuation of the forward areas during the St. Mihiel and Argonne offensives. When the number of American hospital trains available were found insufficient, he placed at our disposition the facilities of the French, laboring personally, day and night, in order that there might be no interruption of service.
