The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Captain of the Air Service Maurice J. Bourgeois, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Aide-de-Camp to Marshal Petain, Captain Bourgeois, through his careful and prompt action, rendered valuable service to the allied cause. His constant and tireless efforts brought about the consolidation and thorough regulation of the Red Cross and other benevolent organizations, which proved to be of great worth to the comfort of the American and other allied groups.
