The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Chemical Corps) Joaquin E. Zanetti, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Chief Liaison Officer of the Chemical Warfare Service with the French forces, Lieutenant Colonel Zanetti’s untiring energy, thorough familiarity with the French language and methods, and his superior technical ability enabled him to gather an enormous amount of detailed information concerning the manufacture, handling, and use of gases, which were of inestimable value to our Government in the manufacture and supply of chemical warfare materials in the United States.
