    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Infantry) William H. Oury, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Placed in Command of the 157th Infantry Brigade, 79th Division, during the Montfaucon drive, Colonel Oury displayed exceptional qualities of leadership and marked tactical skill. Continuing at the same time in command of his regiment, the 314th Infantry, he directed the men of his command, and by his dauntless determination carried them forward under heavy enemy fire. He proved himself untiring in energy and possessed of great initiative, sound judgment, and military attainments of high order.
