The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Medical Corps) Angus McLean, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Director of the Professional Services and later as Commanding Officer of Base Hospital No. 17 and surgical consultant in hospital formations at the front, by his tireless energy, great resourcefulness, and brilliant professional attainments Colonel McLean rendered services of inestimable value in the care of the sick and wounded of the American, British, and French Armies, thereby contributing materially to the success of the American Expeditionary Forces.
