The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal (Posthumously) to Major (Medical Corps) Theodore C. Janeway, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Chief of the Division of Internal Medicine in the Surgeon General’s Office from 26 June to 27 December 1917, Major Janeway distinguished himself by his conspicuous service in the organization and development of that division. Standing as one at the head of his profession in America, he was responsible for the selection of many prominent internists for war service, thereby rendering a service of inestimable value to the Government in caring for the sick.
