The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Henry H. Harjes, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Chief Liaison Officer of the American Expeditionary Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Harjes rendered most valuable and important service in establishing and maintaining cordial relations between the French and American authorities. His efforts materially furthered that deep feeling of understanding which marks the association of the allied Armies.
