The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Adjutant General’s Corps) Thomas Edward Hambleton, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Colonel Hambleton displayed unusual skill and untiring zeal in organizing and administering the Statistical Division of the Adjutant General’s Office. With no precedent to guide or assist him, he showed marked initiative in this most difficult task, creating a wonderful record of achievement, which is a tribute to his ability and clear-sightedness amid a maze of details. Self-sacrificing in his devotion to duty, he achieved excellent results in all his endeavors.
