The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Infantry) Charles Wesley Exton, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Assistant G-5, General Headquarters, France, Colonel Exton had complete responsibility for the control, supervision, and inspection of the detachments of the American students in French Universities, which was part of the educational system of the American Forces in Germany. He performed all his duties with exceptional efficiency and rendered services of much value.
