The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Medical Corps) Guy L. Edie, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Colonel Edie was placed in charge of the Medical Service at Brest, France, at the time when it became the chief port of debarkation for American troops and at a period when the arrival of troops in unprecedented numbers, and with many sick, overwhelmed the medical arrangements for their care. By his great resourcefulness he successfully overcame the many difficult problems that were presented.
